I made this peach crostata recipe last night, served warm, for movie night with the family. Forget the popcorn when you can have peach crostata. What is a crostata you ask? It’s the Italian word for a free-form pastry crust (sweet or savory) with a filling exposed, and essentially the same thing as a galette, in French.
Pear Clafoutis
Banana Cake w/ Cinnamon Streusel Crumb
To all the Moms out there Happy Mother’s Day! In honor of the hardest working women, here is a cake that will go perfectly with your morning cup of coffee and gossip magazine. Isn’t that what the weekend is for? Sugary carbs for breakfast.
Speaking of weekend, I just love looking through the different categories on Pinterest, especially food. As I scrolled I came across a banana bread with crumb topping from the blogger littlebitsof.com on Pinterest that looked delicious. I had to pin it. The recipe was not gluten free, or dairy free, but that didn’t stop me from pinning it. All those recipes that look too good to resist go straight into my “Inspired to make gluten and dairy free (and soy free to be exact)” board. You have to come visit me on Pinterest and see all those pretty pics.
Peanut Butter Chocolate Tart with Maldon Sea Salt
When I think of Valentine’s Day I think of chocolate.
Rich, dark, sinful chocolate. But for me, that’s not enough. I needed more. As if chocolate wasn’t enough. Hey, why not add peanut butter, with a sprinkling of maldon. There, now that is one sinfully satisfying dessert that will embrace all cravings for decadence. It’s Valentine’s Day. This sweet, yet salty, crunchy, yet creamy chocolate tart will have your partner weak at the knees. Now is the perfect time for any bribery. It’s that good. This tart does have a few processes to it, but worth fussing over in the kitchen. As with most of my recipes, each component can be made a day or two in advance.
Carrot Cake
I was craving some carrot cake, but I didn’t want to bake a huge multi-tiered cake for our drive out to Palm Springs for the weekend. Imagine that in the trunk on a 3 hour car ride! Being a family with food allergies, I cook and bake everything. We always stay at a hotel with a kitchen, when available, or stow our food in the hotel kitchen (yep, lots of planning). So I thought a simple carrot cake, still in it’s pan, and frosting on the side should be just fine. And it was the perfect traveler. I don’t know if I can say that about my kids, well I guess they were for 2 out of the 3 hour car ride.
Ginger Cookies dipped in Chocolate
Happy 2014 everyone!!! Make it an amazing one, with lots of good health, good food, and good times.
Here is the ginger cookie recipe, the last of three from my trio of holiday gift cookies that I had given for Christmas… Here are the Oatmeal Cranberry Orange Glaze and Red Velvet Crinkle cookies.
Red Velvet Crinkle Cookies
(Updated 12/29/2015: After baking these red velvet crinkle cookies this week I made a few changes to the recipe to make things quicker (no more rolling balls) and better like adjusting food coloring for less of a muted color, along with recipe changes (see recipe and notes below) such as flour blend and omitting coconut yogurt. I love the “new and improved” results and not having to roll 4 dozen balls is very improved and very much loved!)
Oatmeal Cranberry Orange Glaze Holiday Cookies
Even though we celebrate Chanukah, which was weeks ago, I am always baking cookies during this time of year. Dozens and dozens of cookies that I give as gifts. It definitely makes baking easier when I make the cookie dough for each recipe a week ahead of time and freeze.
I wrap each dough separately in wax paper and drop it into a freezer bag for freezing. I label each bag and put the date on it (who can remember?) then continue a week later with the easy part-scooping and baking.
Pumpkin Pecan Streusel Cake
While flipping through that vast picture catalog, Pinterest, I stumbled upon a Williams Sonoma recipe that caught my eye. No, it wasn’t gluten free, nor dairy free, and certainly not vegan, but it looked so tempting. Of course, I had to give it a try, for my family’s sake. No, not for me (wink, wink).
Devil’s Food Cupcakes w/ Marshmallow Frosting for Halloween
I will confess, Halloween is not a “holiday” I care to celebrate. I bake some cupcakes or cookies with my younger boys every year and decorate them with whatever I can find that is dye free, high fructose corn syrup free, in addition to being gf,df,sf. It’s not easy, gosh the amount of junk out there, wow. The reason I don’t care for the holiday is not because of the lack of allergen free candy, no, it’s about the idea that there is a holiday celebrating evil spirits, and then we give away candy for it. As if we need more crap to add to life. But that’s just me. Pardon my venting moment, and please don’t tell my children I told you that.
